Seth Troxler has funny shorts, a new track and an Electric Island appearance in Toronto
Caught swatting non-existant bats and wearing his girlfriend’s shorts, Seth Troxler proved himself to be a very comical man with 1970’s swagger, when DJ MAG caught him for an impromptu interview at the Winter Music Conference in Miami in 2010. So, just what we can expect from him today at Electric Island, on Center Island in Toronto? It’s an open question - but one thing is for sure — the music should be good.
Wooden Toy by Leviathan Wins FITC Award for Best Animation
Teaming up with musician Amon Tobin of Ninja Tune label fame, Leviathan studio produced the animation for two songs as part of the ISAM 2.0 live audio-visual experience tour. In their stellar promotional video they expose some of their creative process and illuminate the mastery of their studio at work.
Here are some reasons why Leviathan’s multiplatform animation project is especially innovative and most deserving of an FITC award.
Wow. Bernhoft performing his song “Cmon Talk” at the Drake Underground blew my mind. Much like he is in his music video, he stole the show with his one-man band, voice range and crowd-pleaser abilities. He is one talented performer. We were lucky to see him before he left for SXSW. He had performed in Brooklyn the night before… He is highly recommended and we were so lucky to see him perform in this intimate venue!

Nautiluss seems to have come full circle as he prepares for his debut performance atMutek Festival tonight. Having grown up in Montreal, Nautiluss, perhaps better known as Graham Zilla (of former band Thunderheist), says he always wanted to play the festival.
Metronomy Expect to See Celebrities at Coachella, Jealous of N.E.R.D.

There have been lots of memorable gigs for Metronomy, so it’s hard for the band’s founder and singer Joseph Mount and his cousin, main man behind the keyboards, Oscar Cash, to pick one favourite from the last year. The four-piece band (along with bassist bassist Gbenga Adelekan and drummer Anna Prior) have been on the road since December 2010 and will be on the road in North America for another month opening for Coldplay starting on April 17 for over a dozen dates before heading back to Europe for more gigs in June.
Mount and Cash sat down with Spinner for a chat days before the first of their two massive festival gigs (April 15 and 22) at the Coachella Valley Music and Arts Annual Festival in California.
EGYPTRIXX BUILT HIS ELECTRONIC SOUND ON A ROCK’N’ROLL FOUNDATION

Following a successful year of touring to support the release of his album ‘Bible Eyes,’ Toronto’s Egyptrixx is headlining a series of shows as part of The Red Bull Music Academy and Mutek Tour. The gigs wrap up March 8 in Winnipeg shortly before Mutek Festival announces the first group of performers for the festival’s 13th edition, which takes place May 30-June 3, in Montreal.

Originally from the Netherlands, Dutch electronic musician Martyn recalls leaving behind his big studio a few years ago for a move that would kick-start his career. He set up shop in Washington, DC, and in 2009 released his debut album, ‘Great Lengths,’ on his own 3024 label.

Richie Hawtin is one of the world’s biggest DJs, but much of the Detroit techno luminary’s reputation is rooted in his pioneering production work as Plastikman in the 1990s. Lately, he’s been fusing his two careers together with his audio-visual extravaganza Plastikman Live. Enlisting a ten-person team of VJs and sound and light engineers, the Windsor, Ontario native has wowed dance crowds everywhere from Europe and North America to Japan, Argentina and Australia, including an acclaimed set at last year’s Coachella.

It’s hard to believe but this year marks Amon Tobin’s debut at Montreal’s MUTEK Festival, now in its 12th year. Even so, Tobin is no stranger to the Canadian city, having lived there while producing several of his albums for the celebrated electronic label Ninja Tune. It’s only fitting then that the renowned Brazilian-born DJ and producer would select his former stomping ground for the world premiere of his new live show.
MOVEMENT FESTIVAL IN DETROIT SURGES IN 12TH YEAR WITH ELECTRONIC MUSIC REVIVAL

Nearly 100,000 people rang in Detroit’s 12th annual Movement Festival this Memorial Day long weekend dancing in the rain in the techno homeland’s outdoor Hart Plaza. The record number of attendees was up almost 5,000 from the previous year’s record, perhaps indicative of electronic music’s slow but steady resurgence in popularity in America after the decline and crack down of many underground dance music venues in the late-1990s, early-2000s.
THOUGHTLESS MUSIC RING IN THEIR 50TH RELEASE AT MONTREAL’S MUTEK FESTIVAL

With the recent 50th release from Thoughtless Music, music fans are taking note of Noah Pred as both a top-notch DJ/producer and the founder of the Toronto-based techno label. At this year’s Mutek festival, which kicks off June 1, five producers on Pred’s Thoughtless roster are poised to perform at the renowned five-day affair in Montreal.
